Fashion Forecasting, Designing a Garment Collection and Concept Garment Design and Creative Garment Design are aspects of my folio based on the theme of Urban Forage. All have shown research, development, drawing with different media, illustration, working drawings and photography. My ambition is to tell a story through fashion, utilising the skills I have gained and wish to develop. The scrap yard was the inspiration for this theme a journey of interesting images from distorted rusty old objects. Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo the founder of Comme Des Garcons latest Autumn/Winter collection was an inspiration. The twisting and carefully scrunched layers of fabric giving it a 3D layering effect made it looked recyclable which I loved. From my personal photographs many shapes, textures and lines created developed my ideas into sportswear by designing unusual binding, twisting fabrics, seams and panelling bringing out the urban edge. Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham’s recent launch of a sportswear line where also influenced throughout. With the up and coming Olympic Games this was the perfect opportunity.
Commercial design gave me the opportunity to work with Scottish designer Niki Taylor setting me the task to design a re-launch of her collection for womenswear Autumn/Winter 2012 for her label Olanic. Olanic was inspired by the underground pop culture, art, film and music. I designed my collection based on these influences, an altered but wearable collection suits Olanic with a quirky edge. Panelled dresses, playsuits with cut out shoulders with brace fastenings which can be removed bring out the main aspects of this collection.
Recently visiting London Graduate Fashion week has gave me an exciting vibe to what the future holds within the fashion industry. Being Passionately interested in Fashion Design and with the skills and knowledge I have gained I feel I have the potential to develop further to degree level at Manchester Metropolitan University.
